Modern Cattle Slaughter Line Installed in East Africa to Boost Meat Safety and Efficiency
A state-of-the-art cattle slaughter line has been recently installed at a key African abattoir, marking a critical step in upgrading the continent’s livestock processing sector. Supported by international development collaborators and local agricultural authorities, the project aims to address long-standing inefficiencies and safety gaps in meat production.
The new facility integrates automated stunning systems, hygienic evisceration stations, and a high-capacity cold storage unit—all designed to align with global food safety and animal welfare standards. It triples the abattoir’s previous daily processing capacity, enabling faster handling of cattle while minimizing meat spoilage. Additionally, the line includes waste management technology that converts by-products into reusable resources, reducing environmental impact.
“This installation directly tackles post-harvest losses, which have long hindered our ability to meet regional and global meat quality demands,” said a representative of the leading agricultural body.
As part of a wider effort to modernize Africa’s livestock infrastructure, the project is expected to boost the continent’s capacity to supply safe, high-quality meat to both local and international markets.
